Mid- Hiatus

I can't believe it's been more than two years since my last post and that amazing trip. Time passes by too quickly when you're crazy-busy. It's been hard to set aside my writing for the last two years, but it was for a good cause - I went back to school! Going back to college in your forties is better than most people think. Yes, there's still final exams (and yes, they still suck). And an occasional bad teacher. But going to school later in life is far better than I thought it would be because my perspective has changed. When I was a kid and young adult, school was so much a part of life, I just took education for granted. Now, I walk into a classroom and truly appreciate my teachers and what they have to offer. Education no longer feels like burden, but a gift. And, THE INTERNET! How on earth did we ever succeed as students before internet tutorials? I developed a true fondness for the theme song to Hank Green's Crash Course. And another source of help at this time of life: in-house tutors. It's pretty cool that only a few years ago, I was tutoring my children in math and science, and now they tutor me! They are so patient, even when the answer to my algebra questions result in, "I could explain it to you, but that would require calculus." Uh.....

Online Algebra aside (pro-tip: Don't take online math classes!), it's been a fabulous few years as I've worked my way through the prerequisites for nursing school. I start the real thing (Actual. Nursing. School!) in only a few short weeks. It will be highly stressful, and challenging, but I'm looking forward to it. There won't be much time to blog over the next two years, but something is stirring in my soul. I suspect my creativity is tired of being shoved aside and is breaking out in other ways. Since I won't commit to something as big as a story, my creativity seems to be unleashing itself in the form of poetry. While I'm not a newbie poet, it's probably been a decade since I've written this way with any sort of regularity. It feels so good to practice my word-smithing skills again and I'd forgotten just how much I love writing poems. I plan to publish some of them here from time to time when my demanding schedule allows it. As much as I want to return to blogging about life, creativity, and writing, this is the half-way point of my blogging hiatus - except now there'll be some poetry.
